Boarding runs from Plaza Norte in the north of the city as well as the usual Miraflores and San Isidro points, which is rare on this route. The islands come first at nine, then a renowned Ica winery at one for a tasting of more than five wines, piscos and cream liqueurs, with lunch as free time. Huacachina follows at half past three: a guided walk and photo stop at the lagoon, then the buggy session you paid for.

Reserve tickets and the visiting window are set by SERNANP, not by the operator: S/11 for a one-day adult ticket, S/17 for the two-reserve combo, and boats only between 06:00 and 13:00.

The two departure times

The listing spells out the consequence of the buggy choice. One hour on the dunes and the bus leaves at 17:00; two hours with the sunset and it leaves at 18:30. Arrival in Lima is between 22:00 and 23:30 depending on that choice and traffic.

Few listings print their extras as plainly as this one, which makes the real cost easy to work out before you book.

It suits travellers staying outside the tourist triangle — Plaza Norte boarding is unusual — and anyone who wants to price the day themselves rather than accept a bundle. Adding the sunset buggy and the taxes brings it to roughly $84, so if you know you want both, compare that number against the listings that include them.

This listing is the clearest illustration of why headline prices on this route mislead. The fare is $57, and the listing states in its own exclusions that taxes are $8.50 and buggies with a sandboard are $10 for one hour or $18 for two with the sunset. Nothing is hidden — but the number you compare against other tours is not $57.

The three totals

Fare only, with the lagoon as a photo stop: $57. Fare plus taxes plus the one-hour buggy: about $76. Fare plus taxes plus the two-hour sunset buggy: about $84, and a return to Lima up to ninety minutes later.

That last figure sits above Peru Hop's $94 by a smaller margin than the shelf prices suggest, and above Turismo iPeru's $62 outright.

What you get for it either way

A tasting of more than five wines, piscos and cream liqueurs at a well-known Ica bodega, a two-hour island circuit, and the only boarding point on this page north of the river at Plaza Norte — which matters if you are staying near the airport rather than in Miraflores.

Three options, and the differences are not cosmetic.

Restrictions worth reading

The listing excludes children under six and travellers with high blood pressure, asks for a passport or ID card, and recommends carrying a credit card. Pisco tasting is for over-18s. Pets and alcohol in the vehicle are not allowed.
